HEALTH: Echinacia, Colds and Bronchitis

My wife use to get bronchitis every year and she would go through a round of anti-biotics but still have the bronchitis. I looked up herbs for lung health. I picked about five herbs for lungs and put them together in jel caps. When she started taking them the bronchitis started going away.

Problem solved! We used that formula for a few years then we discovered "lung formulas" in healthfood stores. Some of the lung formulas worked good and some didn't.

One year I tried echinacea purpurea and that worked as well or better than other formulas. I bought bulk echinacea root and brewed about two cups of tea with honey. To test the potency just chew a small piece of the root. It should numb the tongue.

We haven't used anti-biotics since that first herbal formulation. We've been using only echinacea for several years now. But we've been using the concentrate, 30 drops in a little water. Pretty easy!

Over the years we have tried echinacea purpurea concentrate for colds and it's hard to tell if it's helping or not. However, this year I bought a bottle of echinacea angustifolia. This is the most potent echinacea I have bought in years. Mix a dropper full of this in a little water and it will definitely numb your tongue.
My wife had a cold for a few days so she took three doses of this echinacea in one day then she forgot that she had a cold. Same experience for my step daughter. You can get this brand at my favorite supplement source http://www.vitacost.com/ . It's $9.99 per bottle plus $5.00 s&h. They have a search bar. Just type in echinacea and go. Look for the "NSI Echinacea Root, 4 fl ounce." You can read the label. It will say echinacea angustifolia.

"Safety:
Echinacea is essentially nontoxic when taken orally. People should not take echinacea without consulting a physician if they have an autoimmune illness, such as lupus, or other progressive diseases, such as tuberculosis or multiple sclerosis. Those who are allergic to flowers of the daisy family should take echinacea with caution. There are no known contra-indications to the use of echinacea during pregnancy or lactation."
